Tea and Health is led by Dr. Saziye Ilgaz from Turkey

Saziye Ilgaz is an independent tea specialist with over 36 years of experience in the tea industry. Between 1985 and 2003, she worked as a production engineer, production manager and quality control manager at the black and green tea factories of Caykur, Turkey's largest tea institution. She worked as a researcher and Head of Technology Department at Caykur Ataturk Tea Research Institute between 2003-2021.

Since 2003, she has worked as a project manager, senior expert, consultant and researcher in 7 projects related to tea, 3 of which were financed by The Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey (TÜBİTAK) and 1 of which was financed by the European Union (EU).

Saziye was appointed as the leader of the Tea and Health Subcommittee by the management of the R&D Committee of ESTA, which she has been a member of since 2021. The members of the subcommittee aim to examine scientific publications about tea from an unbiased perspective and to share the benefits of tea for human health with consumers on the ESTA website.
